About Medis
Medis is a Centre for Adult Education, founded in 1947, and offers residents of Åland aged 16 and over opportunities for meaningful leisure activities, community, and lifelong learning through courses in non-formal education. We also offer courses in Swedish for Immigrants (SFI), which gives immigrants the opportunty to integrate into our society and learn the language.
The Institute’s activities are financially supported by the Government of Åland, the City of Mariehamn, and all participating municipalities on Åland. Medis is administered by the City of Mariehamn. Course fees also contribute to our funding.
Medis Liberal Education – A service offered by the municipalities for the citizens
Our main task is to organise a variety of courses and lectures around Åland to promote individual well-being and societal development.
These courses are voluntary and do not lead to formal qualifications.
Medis Integration Education – Swedish for Immigrants
The Government of Åland has assigned Medis to arrange Integration Education in Swedish at different levels. We offer SFI-courses (Swedish for Immigrants) which support immigrants on the labor market in cooperation with AMS.
